“Behold, the maidservant of the Lord? Let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
The Bible mentions 187 women by name and includes hundreds of nameless women. Women have always had an integral part in building of the Kingdom of God.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, is a woman who stands out this time of year.
The mother of Jesus came from a small village called Nazareth. She had an unexpected visit from an angel who told her that she was going to bear a child who was to be the Savior of the world.
Among all the godly, Jewish women in Palestine, why did God choose Mary of Nazareth to give birth to the Savior of the world? This naïve, innocent, young maiden was totally dependent on God for protection and provision as the baby grew in her womb.
This passage describes Mary as “highly favored” and “blessed” by God. She was startled when the angel appeared to her and spoke. After he explained, she replied with a calm faith, and obediently accepted God’s call to her.
Has God asked you to do something that seems out of the ordinary? Follow Mary’s example of obedience and say, “Yes” to His divine plan.
Prayer: Where You lead me, I will follow, Lord. I don’t always understand Your ways, but, like Mary, I want to be obedient and accept Your will.
