“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)
Before you had GPS, were you ever in a strange town and stopped to ask for directions? Asking for directions in the South can be humorous. And sometimes the directions leave you totally lost!
The Hebrew “word” means a light, lamp or candle. The idea is, the Word of God is like a torch or lamp to assist us on a dark night. The light shows the way and prevents us from stumbling over obstacles or falling down precipices. It keeps us from wandering off the path into danger.
Light is necessary for walking. We need the light from God’s Word to get clear direction. His Word allows us to see the path clearly. We don’t have to wander aimlessly.
Prayer: Today, Lord, I am so thankful for Your Word that directs me in this dark world I’m living in. Help me to keep Your Word open in my hand on a daily basis so I won’t stumble and fall. Your Word is all I need!
