“Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua 1:7 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)
There was a game we use to play on a regular basis that was called “Follow the leader.” The game was simple. It consisted of a leader and followers. Wherever the leader went those behind him/her would follow.
Now I know that my age is showing for even bringing up this game; however, I’ve been thinking maybe it needs reviving. It seems followers are having difficulty following leaders.
Joshua transitioned from following Moses to becoming a leader. Before he could lead, he learned to obey. Good followers become good leaders.
In this passage, we see Joshua directing and encouraging his followers. Leaders are confident when God is with them. His style was learned from his leader, Moses.
Try following the leader God has placed over you. Following is a skill that will serve you well in life. Pray that God would give wisdom to them. Leading is not always as easy as it looks.
Prayer: God, we thank You for giving us divine leadership. Thank You for Pastors who care for us individually. You know exactly what we and our families are in need of and You have chosen leaders to lead us. Help me to follow the leader. Amen!
