“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46
Jesus was both God and man. He knew no sin, yet on the cross all the sins of the world were laid on His shoulder.
As the sinless blood flowed from His body, He felt the weight of our sin, the guilt and the shame. As the Spirit forsook Him, He cried out in agony, “Why have you forsaken me?”
The lifeless body they removed from the cross and buried in Joseph’s tomb was just an empty human shell. But on resurrection morning, the spirit of God returned to His glorified body.
He paid the supreme price for our sin and guilt. Because He lives, we also can live. We have the hope that even though death may come, one day we will rise again to spend eternity with Him.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for the price you paid to redeem us from sin, and for the hope that you have give us, that one day we will rise to meet you in the air.
