“And the Lord said unto Gideon, the people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, mine own hand hath saved me.” (Judges 7:2 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
So, you thought the word “downsizing” was something new? No, no, no! In Judges 7:1-16, we read where God instructed Gideon to downsize his army. It was a major decrease in number from 10,000 to 300 soldiers. On the surface it didn’t make sense, but the Lord told Gideon what to do and why He was doing so.
Numbers don’t impress God. We are the ones who are enamored with numbers. We want more, more and more, when all we really need to see the miraculous happen is just us and God. God is bigger than more and more. He’s all we need!
Prayer: Lord, I submit to Your command. Help me to not get caught up in the numbers game. I want you to receive all the glory and honor! Amen.
