Self-disclosure

For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.(Psalm 51:3, Holy Bible, King James Version)

David acknowledges his sin to God. He doesn’t try to cover it up. He doesn’t blame his temptations and actions on another. He doesn’t excuse himself with “What’s the big deal? Everybody does it.”

David confesses. He asks for mercy. He asks for renewal to the man he was before he sinned. In verse 10, he asks for a complete cleansing.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Don’t wait to be outed by someone else. Confession to God—self-disclosure—is the best path to a new you.

Prayer: Lord, help me to recognize my faults and confess them to You. Renew wholeness and holiness to me when I’ve strayed from Your commandments. Amen.
