Profit and Loss

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36, Holy Bible, King James Version)

From Mom and Pop grocers to Fortune 500 corporations, profit and loss are the controlling words. Different factors separate the struggling homegrown business owner and the corporate executive, but success of both is revealed by which way the scale tips.

This is apparent in Jesus’ day because He chooses these factors to weigh success against salvation. Jesus questions the rationality of putting all of one’s efforts into business ventures while neglecting the eternal soul.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, this is a serious question that’s still difficult for many. Open my eyes so I keep my priorities straight. Amen.
