Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. (Romans 12:15, Holy Bible King James Version)
How easy it is to remember this verse at times of excitement. A friend gets a promotion. A new baby is born. You attend open house in an upscale neighborhood.
But what about times of weeping? Sure, you’re there to sympathize with the parents when their daughter overdoses on drugs. But where will you be when they take the responsibility of caring for their young grandchildren? You’re there at congregational church potlucks, but where are you when the homeless wait at the church kitchen for a hot meal on a winter day?
Your presence in times of celebration may be forgotten, but your support during seasons of weeping will be long remembered. Your presence, encouraging words and kindness will make an everlasting difference.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You cared for those with health issues and emotional and physical needs. Help us to follow your example to bring comfort to those who weep in distress.
