“Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes” (Daniel 9:3)
Fasting combined with prayer is powerful! (Daniel 9:3, Mark 9:29, Acts 2:42) It brings humility to our human nature and cultivates increased sensitivity to spiritual things. In exchange for surrender and self-denial, we can receive revelation and a deeper understanding of God’s purpose. Fasting will make the Word of God more effective in our hearts and give greater clarity as we read it.
Isaiah 58:6-14 outlines the purpose for fasting: looses the bands of wickedness; unties heavy burdens; frees the oppressed; breaks every yoke; produces compassion for the needy; provides an entrance to the presence of God; accelerates an answer from God; brightens the path; repairs breaches and gaps; grants spiritual understanding; brings deliverance and victory; activates Godly authority; and more!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, from our consecration in prayer and fasting, I pray you will bring the revelation of Your Name and demonstration of Your power to this city! Today, I’m visualizing the results we so desperately need through eyes of faith. In Jesus Name, Amen.
