“And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.” (Exodus 3:4 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
Last night we had a lady return to our church who had visited a couple of weeks ago. I remembered her name was Carol. After church I went to her and said, “It’s so good to have you visit us again, Carol.” Her face lit up and she said, “She remembered my name.”
To remember someone’s name is one of the highest compliments you can give them.
God knows us by name. We are not just a number waiting in line to be called – He knows our name! Moses was 80 years old when this incident occurred. God doesn’t just call the young; He cares about senior citizens too.
Last week one of our senior church members had a heart procedure. After the procedure a surgeon came in, introduced himself and informed her that the main valve in her heart needed to be replaced. The surgeon explained the risks involved but felt that she would be fine. He asked her if she had any questions, then asked if he could pray with her and the answer was of course “Yes.” As we joined hands around her bed, he asked God to guide his hands so that Mrs. West would feel better.
I have to tell you, this is a first for me. It’s the first time a doctor has asked to pray over me or anyone I was with. He made an impression on all of us standing there. When he left the room I looked at Retha and said, “You’re not just a number to God, He knows you by name!”
Prayer: Lord, You are the Great Physician and you know who to send our way when we have a need. Thank You for knowing us by name!
