“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” I Samuel 30:6
David and his men had returned from battle and found the city of Ziklag burned and all their women and children taken captive. His men were so grieved that they talked about stoning David.
But David knew God was with them, so he took courage and asked God for direction. God told him to pursue the enemy and that they would recover all. David obeyed and God gave them the victory.
We need not fear when we are facing times of trouble and oppression. Like David, we need to encourage ourselves by remembering who we are serving. God is greater than anything that can come against us. When we put our trust in Him, and follow His guidance, He will bring us through the battles and give us the victory.
Prayer: Jesus, we thank you that you are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Help us to trust you with every part of our lives, for we know that victory comes from you.
