“He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.”
I have been thinking about a song we used to sing in church, so I looked up some of the lyrics and am sharing them below:
God hath not promised skies always blue Flower strewn pathways, all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
But God hath promised strength for the day, Rest for the labour, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above, Unfailing kindness, undying love.
Yesterday it rained all day and seemed so dreary, but I am glad for the rain. It is taking away the rest of the snow and cleaning up our world. Also it is providing the moisture that is needed for the plants to grow and bring us the beautiful flowers.
Today the sun is shining, and we forget about the gloom of yesterday, and enjoy the warmth of the sun, which too will cause the plants to grow and bring forth flowers. The same thing is true in our lives. It takes both the sunshine and the rain, the good times and the bad times to make our lives beautiful. Thank God for the sunshine, but also thank Him for the rain.
Prayer: Lord, we thank you for the sunshine of your love, but we also thank you for the rain that comes, and we pray that you will use both to make us what you would want us to be.
