Treasure Hunter

“If you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding,  If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fearof the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.” (Proverbs 2:1-5)

Read our focus verse again and notice the effort it takes to reveal the treasure God has reserved for you.

Spiritual treasures don’t come without a price.  They require the kind of dedicated and patient labor exercised in mining for gold and silver.  You must diligently “search” for the wisdom that is buried within God’s Word like treasure covered by layers of earth and rock.

As we dig, we must ask God to provide us with insight and understanding.  Ultimately, only God can open our eyes to see spiritual truth and help us to apply that truth to our lives (See Ephesians 1:18).

Whether you recognize it or not, the seeds for your future have already been sown.  Your life experiences, relationships, even your mistakes have all contributed to the seeds of purpose that God has planted in your life.  God’s route to your future relies on His unique sense of direction, not the logical straightforward path you might envision.

The doorway to your future is likely to be open already, waiting for you to step up and walk through it.  Ask God every day to show you the one priority to keep you moving forward.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, you have given me your Word on my future:  “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you…thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).  I believe that you are the “author and the finisher” of my faith (see Hebrews 12:2). Through it all, a glorious future that will surprise and fulfill my deepest longing awaits; a future that will reflect Your goodness and power, Your glory and grace.  Amen!
