“As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.” Joshua 14:11-12
When Caleb was forty years old, he was one of the twelve men sent into Canaan to spy out the land. Along with Joshua, he brought back a good report, but they were outnumbered by the others and as a result, Israel was forced to wander for forty more years in the wilderness.
But Caleb had never forgotten the mountain he had seen and that Moses had promised to him for an inheritance. Now he is eighty-five years old and he has not lost his dream. He tells Joshua he is just as strong now as he was then, and that he had been faithful to the Lord, and the Lord would be with him and help him to drive out the enemy.
As we get older, we may feel that our best years are behind us, that we cannot do that much for the work of the Lord any more. But as we faithfully walk with the Lord, He will open doors for us and give us the strength to see our dreams come to pass. No mountain is too big for God.
Prayer: Lord, help us never to abandon the dreams and plans that you have revealed to us, but like Caleb, to press on and receive what you have for us.
