Who Doesn’t Want to be First?

“And he sat down, and called the twelve and saith unto them, if any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.”
(Mark 9:36 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

The envied position of all of us is first place! The competition begins early on. It starts in the toddler class. Go visit them and you will see that the drive to be first is innate.

Jesus had the same problem with the twelve disciples. They jockeyed for positions. He cooled their jets by telling them, “If you want to be first, you must be last and servant of all.” That news was sobering I am sure.

Clamoring for position doesn’t impress God. Greatness comes from doing His biding. Go to the back of the line and do service for the Kingdom and you can be first!

Prayer: Lord, often we don’t get it right and You must teach us Your ways.  Your ways are above our ways. I want to be a servant of all! No more pushing and shoving for me. I desire Your will!

Interesting to read this post this morning. Bro.Paul Graham spoke on this at PI Graduation in Montreal last night, advising the graduates to not seek for a position but to seek for a place to serve.
