“And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house” (Luke 9:5 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).
This past weekend I had a Mother/Daughter Tea at my house. I was scrambling to make sure my house was clean for this event. In fact, it took a housekeeper to join me so that it would be presentable. As women we are obsessed with what our houses look like. We get in high gear when someone is coming to visit. It’s a BIG deal for females.
Zacchaeus didn’t have time to clean house. If Jesus was coming to your house, what would you do to accommodate him? This was an honor which Zacchaeus did not expect. His intention was just to see Jesus, but instead, Jesus wanted to go home with him!
Jesus wants to abide in your house and my house regardless of whether you live in a mansion or a shanty. He is interested in being with you at home.
The next verse shows Zacchaeus’ enthusiasm at having Jesus visit his house. It says, “And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.” I might add; Zacchaeus was a man. He received Jesus joyfully despite the surprise visit. Just a thought!
Prayer: Lord, we are thrilled to have You not only visit our home, but to abide in our home. Thank You for being a personable God. The welcome mat is out waiting for Your entrance.
