“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (1 Peter 2:2 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
Newborns come into the world looking for something to eat. Ultrasounds have shown children sucking their thumbs wanting nourishment.
The Apostle states that those who have been born again desire nourishment. He calls it the sincere milk of the word. Milk is the perfect food for these little ones.
When babies are born, proper nourishment promotes growth. Young Christians strongly resemble children – babies that need watchful care and attention.
As a little girl in Sunday School, I learned a song that sums up this verse. It went, “Read your Bible, Pray every day and you’ll grow, grow, grow.” It was an action song we sang. When we got to the end, we would stand taller and taller as we sang, “grow, grow, grow!”
Adults that’s what it takes to grow in the Lord! I want to grow up in Him! I want to be nourished by the Word of God.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for giving me the sincere milk of the Word of God! Let me read Your Word every day and be fed at Your table.
