“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18
Physical vision is amazing, but you can live without it. Spiritual vision is even more amazing because you cannot live without it. Your eyesight will effect how you live your life, but your vision will dictate how you live your life. The Hebrew word for “perish” in this verse means to avoid; to go back; to avoid living; to go back where you came from. It is clear then that without vision we will die where we are.
Jonathan Swift said, “Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.” This statement reminds me of Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” Vision that looks inward will become duty. Vision that looks outward will become aspiration. Vision that looks upward will become faith!
Prayer: Lord, I feel you calling this generation to move past vision that only employs optical sight to spiritual vision that requires perception and perspective from the Holy Spirit. Help me to be receptive and ready to respond to the greater dimension of faith that you want to reveal to me. Amen.
