“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint:” (Luke 18:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).
Jesus often used parables to get His point across. The first parable in this chapter is about a desperate widow who was persistent until she received her request from a judge. The judge simply became exhausted from her bugging him and gave her what she asked for!
Luke is emphasizing the need for persistent prayer. Many of us ask God for needs, but we give up before He can see any sign of persistence from us. God doesn’t want us to grow weary or give up so easy! The parable is designed to teach us that, though our prayers often appear to be unanswered, we should persevere, and not grow weary in our supplication to God.
Since January 1st, we have been praying in prayer shifts and we are beginning to see the results of prayers we have literally prayed for years. These are basically the same prayers, but God is responding to our persistence!
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for hearing us and seeing our determination to have answers to our prayers. I know what prayer can do!
