“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).
In time of danger, God is our defense. Danger often leaves us paralyzed and weak. It’s good to know that God is not just there, but He is a very present help in trouble!
I was intrigued with the words “very present.” When trouble comes many flee, but God remains. The word “very” is added to qualify the whole proposition, as if this were emphatically true.
I have been in a room full of people and noticed that some are there but not very present. You can tell from the look on their faces that they have left the room mentally and are miles away.
Just this past weekend, Darien and Heather were on their way home from church and came upon a man lying on the side of the road. His motorcycle was in the ditch. They stopped and Darien ran back to see if he could be of help. The man was unresponsive. Darien asked the people around him if they minded him praying. He prayed and the man woke up wanting to know what was going on. Our very present help showed up before the emergency vehicles did!
From my experience in life, I have found Him to be a very present help when life becomes difficult to handle.
Prayer: Today, Lord, I celebrate You for always being there for me. There is no greater source of help in all the world than You!
