No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people. (Romans 2:29, NLT)
I’ve spent the last few days reading through the book of Romans. What a great book full of verses that have the ability to change you from the inside out. Romans 2:29 is a verse that really spoke to me. Living by the law is not the best way to live a Christ-centered life. Living by a rule book is extremely difficult because it is impossible to follow all of the rules. We cannot sustain a life following only a list of rules because we are not perfect and God knows that. There is only one who is perfect and though we strive to be like Him, we can never truly reach that level of perfection. God wants a changed heart. That is what matters to him.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for understanding our faults and loving us anyway. Thank you for speaking to us when we make mistakes and for teaching us to do what is right. You are so gracious and we are so undeserving!
