A 96 year old in a small group Bible study was asked “How can we pray for you?” She replied, “I need help learning how to deal with growing old.”
This isn’t a new conflict. It’s as ancient as time. The psalmist was faced with this same question. He had declared God’s wondrous works from his childhood. In his old age, he considered his purpose in longevity.
O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. (Psalm 71:17-18, Holy Bible, King James Version)
Ready to call it quits? Not yet. Leave a legacy. Follow the psalmist’s example as you age and show God’s strength to younger generations.
Prayer: Lord, help me to show Your strength to younger generations that they may glorify Your name.
