Mark 6:31 “And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest awhile.”
Even though Jesus was God as well as man, he grew tired at times and recognized the need for rest. He knew His disciples could not fulfill what he intended them to do without taking time for rest and refreshment.
It is easy for us to get so busy doing things, that we neglect taking time to rest, and thus we often bring sickness on ourselves. It is very important that we get a good night’s sleep and that we take times for relaxation during the day. A few minutes break from a task can refresh us and help us to do a better job. We cannot do our best for the Lord and for our families if we neglect to take care of ourselves.
Think of Psalm 23, “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me beside still waters, He restoreth my soul.” We need not feel guilty, when we take time to relax and rest, to receive the strength we need to do whatever God has called us to do.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to take an example from you, and not neglect our need for rest and relaxation.
