“Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior. Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God’s Law and Prophets and this is what you get.” (Matthew 7:12 in The Message Bible)
God is not a complicated God who gives us instructions that are hard to follow; rather they are simple things anyone can do. I like that about Him.
This is often called The Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is one of those basic, rule-of thumb guides for behavior that needs to be followed. How pleasant our world would be if this simple rule were followed.
I might add that Jesus is speaking to us in Matthew 7:12. This behavior is the right thing to do. Not because you 0thers treat us right, but because it’s the right way to treat others.
Prayer: Today, Lord, I ask You to help me follow this simple guide You have given me. Often my reaction is not what it should be when I am wronged. Change my heart and help me do what You want me to do rather than my own reaction.
