“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
Recently we had a storm and several branches were blown off of our trees. I noticed how quickly they died. Some of the branches were large and yet they could not longer survive because they had been severed from the life giving source. As they worked in the yard to remove all those dead branches I understood this passage more clearly.
This process occurs in our lives when we become detached from our source of strength which is God. Often people say they don’t need God any longer. Soon they are in serious trouble. This scripture clearly states “…for without me ye can do nothing.”
Branches are useless unless they are attached to the vine. Don’t allow the strong winds of deceit cause you to become unattached.
Prayer: Though the winds are blowing all around me, help me to hold tight to Your hand, dear Lord!
