“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
If your car engine is sputtering, you might want to make sure you didn’t put regular fuel in a tank that calls for premium. And if your thoughts have become negative, critical and depressed, maybe you should check what you have allowed yourself to think about.
As humans, it is inevitable that wrong or negative thoughts will pop into our mind. It’s a product of the fallen society that we live in, as well as the attacks of our enemy. But it’s up to us to decide which thoughts we will dwell on.
Concentrating on getting rid of a negative thought can actually bring more attention to it. It’s easier to just replace that wrong thought by thinking about something good: something that is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, etc.
Prayer: Lord, empower me by Your Spirit to take control of my thoughts. Help me to keep my mind on You and to replace any negative thoughts with holy thoughts.
