“Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go…into the king’s house… Esther…required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain…appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.” Esther 2:13-15
Billboards, magazines, ads everywhere imply that women need a mask to be beautiful. The young women competing for the chance to be queen in Esther’s time probably went overboard with perfumes, lotion and paint. But Esther wisely stuck to the basics, and she was the one who found favour with the king.
One day in a pharmacy, the lady behind me in line gushed, “Oh, what do you use on your skin? It’s so beautiful!” Taken aback, I stammered, “Uh, water…” I felt rather sorry for her as I noticed her face with the enlarged pores and leached colour typical of many years of makeup use.
A new coat of paint on my vehicle is not going to override the effects of using inferior fuel in a premium engine. God designed our bodies to work well naturally. Artificial additives are just going to wreak havoc with the natural beauty God has given us. Let’s trust the master design of our Creator!
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the way You created me. I know You had a reason for making me the way You did. Help me to embrace that and to shine in the beauty You have naturally given me.
