Turn the Volume Down

decibel-meter“A soft answer turneth away wrath:  but grievous words stir up anger.”  (Proverbs 15:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Have you ever noticed how loud a heated discussion can become?  The more that’s said the louder the conversation becomes.  The decimal level rises.

Solomon admonished us on how to keep the public peace.

He says when men are provoked, speak gently to them.  Hard arguments do best with soft words.  Nothing stirs up anger, and sows discord, like calling foul names or using grievous words.

Gentleness will often disarm the most furious.  Rage produces rage.  Universal experience confirms this proverb.  So next time someone hollers at you, try turning the volume down with a soft answer.

Prayer:  When arguments arise, help me not add fuel to the fire.  Let me be Spirit led in my response to others.
