“As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.” John 15:9
Several verses in the Bible exhort us to continue in a certain action or attitude. According to Dictionary.com, some meanings of the word “continue” are “to go on or keep on, to last or endure, to persist in”.
Love is one of the things we need to continue in. Go on loving, even if nobody notices. Just keep on loving, whether your love is returned or not. Persist in loving, even when others mistreat you.
How is that possible? 1 John 4:7 says, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God…” And according to Romans 5:5, “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost”. So the source of our love is divine; it is not something we conjure up from our human abilities. Let’s continue in love!
Prayer: Lord, sometimes it’s easy to love, but other times it’s really difficult. Flood my soul with Your Spirit, so that I will be able to love others with Your divine love. Help me to continue in love.
