I look up to the hills, but where does my help come from? (Psalm 121:1, Holy Bible, New Century Version)
For years I’ve watched surrounding hills known locally as the Altamont defy winter and surround drivers with miles of fresh green grasses. We lamented the absence of rain last year when these hills east of San Francisco stayed golden summer brown. On my drive today, I was intrigued by the phenomenon of winter green again after a brief rainy period. Brown or green, I’m inspired by these natural sentinels. But, like the Psalmist, I consider why I look to them for inspiration because my help comes from a higher source.
Prayer: Lord, my help comes from You, no matter whether the hills are green or brown. You are my inspiration. Amen.
