Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. (Acts 12:5, Holy Bible, New King James)

The ophthalmologist directed my attention to his left ear. “Look right here,” he said a few seconds before he shined a blinding light into my eyes. I wanted to close them, but he insisted that my focus remain steadfast so he could see the problems, even though I couldn’t see him.

While Peter was unjustly imprisoned for declaring his faith, the local church could have been blinded by the impossibility of circumstances. After offering a single prayer for the hopeless situation, they could have closed their eyes to Peter’s plight. Instead, the church focused its attention on him. Their continued prayers were answered when God dispatched an angel to release Peter from the jail and he joined them at the prayer meeting.

Prayer: Lord, help me to unite with others and focus on the needs of individuals until they receive a miracle. Amen.
