“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2:7
When reading the Christmas story, there is something to learn from each of the characters who played a part in the drama. From the innkeeper, we discover how important it is be attentive to what is taking place before our eyes.
You see, this man got so caught up in the busyness of running an inn during high tourist season (the census) that he failed to recognize something extraordinary happening right on his property. He carelessly allowed the Messiah to be born in a dirty stable when he should have been rolling out the red carpet.
Let’s not allow our crazy Christmas calendar to cause us to be inattentive to the reason for the season, our precious Jesus. Let’s give Him the honor He deserves, let’s enthrone Him in our hearts and homes: not just tomorrow, but every day.
Prayer: Lord, be the center of my Christmas. Even as I enjoy family, fun, food and presents during our Christmas celebration, let me cherish You most of all.
