“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1 Peter 5:8 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
The Apostle Peter knew from experience to stay on-guard for the devil. He had been tripped up by the enemy before and was wise to his tricks.
Satan is your adversary. He is your personal enemy. He opposes those who are living for God. The Bible describes Satan as a lion that crouches and waits for a chance to devour his prey. Naturalists have observed that a lion roars when he is rouse with hunger, for then he is most fierce, and most eagerly seeks his prey.
This is the reason we must be wide awake and not lose track of where we are. It’s a fight until the finish. We are in a constant battle, but victory is ours!
Members of the armed forces are taught jungle warfare. They are trained to always stay on guard and be keenly aware of their surroundings. In the same manner, the Word of God warns us to be aware and avoid the very appearance of evil.
Prayer: I put on the whole armor of God today to keep myself protected. Lord, cover me with Your blood from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. In Jesus Name, Amen!
