“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee,” Hebrews 13:5
Long lines of people standing all night to be the first to get the newest release of ____________ (fill in the blank). People getting trampled as others rush to fill their cart on Black Friday. Posessions, possessions, more, more, more….
The concept of contentment needs to be dusted off and put in its proper place. Do we really need the newest Smartphone when the one we have is still working fine? Do our kids need 25 Christmas gifts each? What are we teaching them through our example?
It is so easy to get sucked into a materialistic attitude when we live in a commercialized culture. We have to constantly reorient our minds to what is truly important. Then and only then can we really be content.
Prayer: Lord, guard my mind against materialism. I want to live in a way that honors You. Let me be content with what You bless me with.
