“You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.” (James 4:4-6, The Message)
We serve a jealous God. Choosing to focus both our time and attention to temporary things in place of Him is both displeasing to Him and to ourselves. It is not until we sit down and really think about how we are spending our time that we are able to see just how far we have gone from what is truly pleasing to the Lord. I know that I am guilty of getting myself far too busy and not spending enough personal time with Him – my guess is that I am not alone in this category. I am so thankful that the Lord is gracious to forgive us!
Prayer: Help us to remember how terrible it was to not know You. Open our eyes to what it is that we need to change in order to draw nearer to You. In Jesus name, amen.
