And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?” (Matthew 16:3, Holy Bible, New American Standard).
The clouds over the San Francisco Bay Area’s most eastern city suggested a downpour in creative stages as a gray mist hovered high above my car. Rain! My hopes rose with the first splats of water against my windshield. I counted a dozen drops before the clouds shifted and left the roadway dry.
Signs of the second coming of Jesus, like those raindrops, were sprinkled in the news today. A typhoon headed toward Japan, military maneuvers in Jerusalem, wobbly financial markets, increased crime, extensive famines, and a drought in California’s agricultural valleys seemed routine when considered individually. When grouped together and added to other events, they form the signs of the times. With or without the rain, Jesus is coming soon.
Prayer: Lord, signs of the times are everywhere. Open my eyes to these messages signaling Your eminent return. Amen.
