A Drop in the Bucket

“No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand,” (Isaiah 40:15, Holy Bible, New Living Translation).

I’ve heard this metaphor—a drop in the bucket—since childhood. In summer while people gravitate to beaches, a grain of sand puts things into perspective. Imagine a God so omnipotent He sees 7.1 billion people inhabiting seven continents on the earth as a single grain of sand. Yet in His greatness, He recognizes me.

Prayer: Eternal God, I’m awed that in the vastness of the universe and among billions of people, You recognize me as Your child. Amen.
