Quench not the Spirit

flame1 Thessalonians chapter 5 is full of brief but pointed instructions, including verse 19.  Quenching the Spirit is like throwing cold water on a bonfire… the light and heat disappears.

How do we avoid quenching the Spirit? First of all, we need to be sensitive to the Spirit of God, when He is speaking and moving. We need to follow the leading of the Spirit rather than forge ahead on our own.

We need to listen to the nudges of the Holy Spirit telling us to pray for someone, witness to them or minister to their needs. Revelation says repeatedly “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”

Prayer: Lord, let my spiritual ears be open to your voice. Let me never quench Your Spirit; help me follow Your leading every day.
